Future of Sustainable Extraction Technologies - Abstract
As the various industries move toward minimizing their respective adverse impacts on the planet and maximizing the effectiveness of each of their extraction processes used to obtain worthwhile resources, the awareness of Sustainable Extraction Technology has increased significantly. Traditional extraction methods mostly utilized hazardous chemical products, were much more energy-intensive, and are currently being replaced by more environmentally compatible and innovative applications. This article will discuss where sustainable extraction methods are headed in the future.
Green solvents are an emerging importance for the sustainable extraction world (i.e., bio-based and deep eutectic solvents). Advanced extraction techniques will also play a role (i.e., ultrasound or microwave-assisted extraction, and hybrid techniques). Overall, a growing emphasis on digitalization including the use of artificial intelligence and real-time process monitoring will be important drivers of efficiency and adaptability. The adoption of circular economy practices will also change how extraction takes place; the use of renewable feedstocks and valorizing waste products are two aspects of implementing circular economy principles in extraction. Despite these positive developments toward sustainable extraction, many challenges still exist mainly the ability to scale-up, the economic feasibility of a sustainable extraction process, and the current regulatory frameworks. The future of sustainable extraction technologies will derive from integrating multiple disciplines to develop environmentally responsible and economically viable extraction processes
