In old age quality of life further deteoriate because of macular degeneration (AMD). Bothe the types dry or wet creates vision problems however dry type is not as bad as wet. The earlier management methods for AMD were combersome, the advanced methods such as, gene therapy, artificial retina involving genetic engeneering technology, using optical or laser swiches to exite neurons (optogenetics) and advanced biological techniques such as transplanting stem cells has better scope for management of macular degeneration.
