Abstract
This manuscript reviews the current understanding of the condition known as rectal prolapse. It highlights the underlying patho physiology, anatomic pathology and clinical evaluation. Past and present treatment options are discussed including important surgical anatomic concepts. Complications and outcomes are addressed.
